The Shining

First off, I'm pretty sure most people know this already, but I WOULD NOT reccomend this book to people with weak stomachs. My goodness, the beginning and the middle parts of the story aren't as gory, but wow, the way King describes the, for lack of a better phrase, the attempted killings made me openly cringe. One of my friends even asked me "What's wrong?" watching me read the end, though in my defense she initially thought I was laughing. Anyways, watching Jack's descent into madness was great. By the time the story neared the end, I barely even recognized Jack, as far as his mental health goes. I'm not going to go too far into Danny's 'shining', but I liked the fact that he learned how to embrace his 'powers' and he stood up to his dad at the end, even though he was a deranged, psychotic, killer. Danny is pretty cool. Pretty, pretty cool. Anyways, Wendy didn't change as much to me, but she didn't need to. The fact that she was oblivious to Jack's problem, fueled the Overlook's affect on Jack, and it worked. Overall, combined with solid characters(most I forgot to mention), beautiful descriptions, and a solid plot, makes The Shining is one of the best books I've ever read.

Maze Runner

Originally, I started reading this about a Chapter in and thought it was boring. I reread it, and I then thoroughly liked it. I really like the way James introduced the main characters, and how they fit into the plot of the story. The plot is a little out there, but it makes sense, and he makes it work. I also kinda enjoyed the character of Teresa, but she reminded me of Tris, which isn't a good thing, at all. Anyways, the way her and Thomas used to know each other was interesting. One of my favorite moments was when the Galders finally figured out the 'puzzle' to the maze, and they gained courage and strength and all that good stuff. Just one thing though:Chuck was a precious child. Death for precious children is not acceptable. Any who, even though I didn't like Teresa much, and I thought it was kind of rushed, I did enjoy this. Note: I have read up to the 3rd book, I will be doing a post soon on the second one.
